Pre A1 Starters, A1 Movers, A2 Flyers, A2 Key for Schools and B1 Preliminary for Schools is a series of fun and motivating English language tests for children in primary and lower secondary education. The tests are an excellent way for children to gain confidence and improve their English.
What is the exam format?
The Cambridge Qualifications for schools are rigorous and thorough tests of English which cover all four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking.

There are three papers; the detailed information and the overall focus of each test is as follows:

Candidates need to be able to understand simple written information such as signs and newspapers, and produce simple written English. |

Candidates need to show they can follow and understand a range of spoken materials such as announcements, when people speak reasonably slowly. |
| Speaking: |
Candidates take the Speaking test with another candidate or in a group of three. They are tested on their ability to take part in different types of interaction: with the examiner, with the other candidate and by themselves. Each of the three test components contributes to a profile which defines the candidates’ overall communicative language ability at this level. |
Who can take these exams?
YLE exams are divided into three activity-based levels:
• YLE Starters
• YLE Movers
• YLE Flyers
This gives your child a clear path to improve their English step by step. The tests offer progression towards other Cambridge English for schools qualifications to let your child develop confidence and a positive attitude towards English language learning.
YLE Starters
Pre A1 Starters (YLE Starters) is the first level of three Cambridge English exams. Young Learners between the age group of 6-8 years old can take YLE (Starters). The test will encourage your child to learn English from an early age and create a positive attitude to language tests.

YLE Movers
A1 Movers (YLE Movers) is the second level of three Cambridge English exams. Young Learners between the age group of 8-9 years old can take YLE (Movers).
The test will encourage your child to communicate in real life situations in English and create a positive attitude towards language tests.

YLE Flyers
A2 Flyers (YLE Flyers) is the highest level of three Cambridge English exams. Young Learners between the age group of 9-12 years old can take YLE (Flyers).
The test shows that your child can understand simple English in everyday situations and can communicate in basic English.

KET for Schools
A2 Key for Schools, formerly known as Cambridge English: Key for Schools (KET for Schools), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. It is an exam for school-age learners which will help prepare them for higher-level English language qualifications.
It is a logical next step after Cambridge English Qualifications designed for young learners and a good place for older children to start learning English too. KET for schools is meant for students in late primary. The new exam format for KET for schools is as follows:

PET for Schools
B1 Preliminary for Schools, formerly known as Cambridge English: Preliminary for Schools (PET for Schools), is one of our Cambridge English Qualifications. A B1 Preliminary for Schools qualification shows that a student has mastered the basics of English and now has practical language skills for everyday use.
This exam is a logical step in a students’ language learning journey between A2 KEY for schools and B2 KEY for schools. This exam is meant for students in secondary schools. The detailed exam format is given below:
